Don’t Let Allergies Take Over Your Life

Written by Cures

If you’ve ever had a nasty cold, you know how uncomfortable itchy eyes, constant sneezing and coughing can be. Unfortunately, some people have allergic sensitivities that can force such symptoms on them when the seasons change or even all through the year. Learn how to fight your allergic triggers with the tips in this article.

Dust mites are very difficult to avoid. These mites dwell in pillows and mattresses, and they feed off flakes of skin. Disgusting! To fend off these undesirables, hide your bedding in protective, zippered covers. Once you’ve done that, start washing your linens no less than once per week in hot water, as hot water is lethal to dust mites.

If you suffer from allergies, but you are wanting to have a pet anyways, you should try to have a pet with short fur. You can find a dog or cat that doesn’t shed all over the place to reduce the chances of you having a bad allergic reaction. In order to cut down on the negative effect that your pet might have on you, do not let them sleep in your bed.

Make sure that you keep your bathroom well-ventilated in order to prevent mold and mildew forming. Allergens are most commonly found in warm, moist areas. Keep wet washcloths and towels on the towel rack, and turn the fan on when finished showering. Turn on bathroom fans, or open windows for air circulation.

While allergy tests are a good way to determine which allergens will affect you, these tests cannot determine how much those allergens will affect you. A skin test may only show you have an allergy to a specific spore. Although you may only suffer with very mild symptoms when near this allergen, you also may not suffer at all.

When exercising outdoors during peak pollen levels, be sure to do so extremely early or extremely late in the day. Pollen count is usually lowest during these times, and you are going to feel far more comfortable.

There are numerous prescription and over-the-counter drugs to treat allergies, but they don’t all work for everyone. If purchasing a new product for the first time, look for the smaller travel sizes so you can test it out or request complimentary office samples from your doctor. If that particular product does not alleviate your allergic symptoms, you can move onto the next one without throwing away your money.

To cut down significantly on allergens in the home, you could always try to remove your carpeting. Carpet is known for harboring pollen, dust and dust mites. If you have carpeting that is wall-to-wall, you may wish to switch to laminate, tile or wood floors. You’ll be amazed at the reduction of allergens in the air when you make this change. You will surely breathe easier! If new flooring is not currently an option, at least try to vacuum your carpets once daily.

If you want to fight back against bronchial allergy symptoms, it’s important to stay well-hydrated. Unless you take in adequate fluids, you may experience dryness and inflammation of your mucosal membranes. Mucosal glands will produce difficult-to-break-up secretions when hydration isn’t sufficient, affecting your bronchial tubes.

If you are unfortunate to suffer from allergies, you should track your conditions based on the time. Between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., pollen levels are at their highest; it is best to stay indoors during this period. If you have to go outside, try not to stay out for very long and limit your activity.

It is possible to stay away from allergy symptoms, even more so for those who have food allergies. But, dealing with pet dander and pollen allergies can be a bit more challenging. But if you use the tips you have read throughout the article above, you will be armed with the tools necessary to deal with all allergens.
